The Little Compton Agricultural Conservancy Trust purchased the develop rights interest in Plat 27, Lot 12-1 from Gabriel Faria, Jr. This purchase occurred on May 24, 2018 through the execution of a Deed of Development Rights and Conservation Restrictions document. Plat 27, Lot 12-1 is located on Peckham Road. It consists of 32 acres of land. A portion of the property is currently in agriculture.
A Baseline Documentation Report was completed on the property in September 2018. The report outlines the history of the property, as well as land uses(see below). The entire report is available on this site.
Prior Land Uses: The Protected Property has a long agricultural history, which continues today. Early historic aerial photographs from 1939 show the area currently in nursery stock in use as pasture and indicate that much of the now-forested area was only recently released from agricultural use. The composition of the Protected Property was similar to that in 1939 until sometimes in the late 1980s or early 1990s when the pasture was planted in nursery stock and the pond was put in place.
Current Land Uses: Today, the Protected Property contains nursery land, oak forest, conifer forest, red maple swamp, and a large farm pond.
