The Little Compton Agricultural Conservancy Trust purchased, from George and Karen Goulart, the development rights to a portion of Plat 29, Lot 2-2. The purchase took place on December 31, 2007. The property consists of 41 acres of land. The Deed to Development Rights protects 18.6 acres of land on East Main Road. The protected area includes approximately 14.6 acres of freshwater wetlands and over three acres of upland property dedicated to the growth of nursery stock and cultivated lawn. A large expanse of wet meadow, a scattering of white oaks, and a small pond surrounded by cattail marsh provide habitat for wildlife and replenishment of the groundwater that nourishes Little Compton’s water supply.
In 2019, George and Karen Goulart subdivided Plat 29, Lot 2-2 in two parcels know as Plat 29, Lot 2-4 and Plat 29, Lot 2-5. This subdivision did not affect the area previously conserved in 2007. Plat 29, Lot 2-4 contains 3.317 acres of property and Plat 29, Lot 2-5 contains 37.683 acres of property. On July 25, 2019, the Little Compton Agricultural Conservancy Trust purchased the development rights to 1.24 acres of property located on Plat 29, Lot 2-4 and the development rights to 16.29 acres of property located on Plat 29, Lot 2-5. In total, Plat 29, Lot 2-5 is comprised of 34.89 acres of land protected under Deeds to Development Rights (18.6 acres protected in 2007 and 16.29 protected in 2019).
